The Chicago 1933-34 World Fair, officially known as the Century of Progress International Exposition, was a world-renowned event held in the midst of the Great Depression. This extraordinary fair celebrated the progress and innovations of the past century, offering a unique opportunity for visitors to immerse themselves in a world of discovery, wonder, and hope.

One of the most iconic attractions of the Chicago 1933-34 World Fair was the Ferris Wheel, a breathtaking engineering marvel that soared over the fairgrounds. Standing at over 264 feet tall, the Ferris Wheel offered visitors panoramic views of the bustling fairgrounds and the city beyond. With each rotation, the wheel showcased the grandeur of the fair and symbolized the boundless possibilities of human ingenuity.

Another notable highlight of the fair was the Sky Ride, a suspended cable car system that transported visitors across the fairgrounds. This innovative transportation method provided a unique perspective of the fair's stunning architecture, including the iconic Perisphere and Trylon. The Sky Ride allowed visitors to witness the fair's majestic splendor from above, creating unforgettable memories of a lifetime.

These meticulously created installations allowed visitors to step back in time and immerse themselves in different eras. From ancient civilizations to pivotal moments in American history, these dioramas brought the past to life and provided a unique educational experience.

The Streets of Paris exhibit was a captivating recreation of the city's charming streets, showcasing its rich culture, fashion, and architecture. This immersive experience brought the charm of Paris to Chicago, transporting visitors to the heart of France. From artists painting en plein air to fashionable boutiques, the Streets of Paris exhibit mesmerized visitors and allowed them to feel as if they had traveled across the Atlantic.

The Chicago 1933-34 World Fair was not only a celebration of progress and innovation but also a melting pot of cultures from around the world. It took six years and cost $100 million, but on May 27, 1933, the gates swung open on the biggest birthday party the city of Chicago had ever seen. The Century of Progress Exposition, better known as the 1933-34 Chicago World's Fair, commemorated the amazing progress that had been made since the founding of the city just 100 years earlier. Many of America's largest companies joined with countries from around the world to showcase their histories and advertise their newest products. The road to opening day was not an easy one, with the Great Depression making it look like the fair might never be built, but thousands of small investors stepped forward to help close the financial gap. The fair went on to an unprecedented second season, and when the gates finally closed after the last of the 39 million visitors went home, it had achieved something quite rare among world's fairs: earning a profit. This collection of rare photographs, previously unpublished, highlights the major attractions of the fair and the astonishing changes made between seasons.
