Bringing Nature into Urban Spaces
The Petropolis Of Tomorrow aims to bridge the gap between urban life and nature, creating a city where green spaces are not limited to parks but integrated into the very fabric of its architecture. Rooftop gardens, vertical forests, and extensive landscaping create a biodiverse environment for both humans and animals.
Neeraj Bhatia believes that architecture should reflect our deep connection with nature, and this belief is evident in every aspect of "The Petropolis Of Tomorrow." The design prioritizes the preservation and integration of existing ecosystems, allowing flora and fauna to thrive alongside urban infrastructure.
A City Designed for Pets
One of the most unique features of "The Petropolis Of Tomorrow" is its focus on catering to the needs of pets. From dedicated pet parks and playgrounds to animal-friendly cafes and grooming centers, this city ensures that pets are not just tolerated but embraced.
Bhatia understands the importance of pets in our lives and acknowledges the positive impact they have on our well-being. Thus, "The Petropolis Of Tomorrow" provides ample opportunities for pets to socialize, exercise, and relax in a safe and inclusive environment.
Innovative Infrastructure
Bhatia's design philosophy goes beyond green spaces and pet-friendly amenities. "The Petropolis Of Tomorrow" incorporates innovative infrastructure that promotes sustainable living, energy efficiency, and waste management.
The architecture of the city features passive design strategies, such as natural ventilation and thermal insulation, to reduce the reliance on artificial energy sources. Solar panels and rainwater harvesting systems are integrated seamlessly into the buildings, creating an eco-friendly and self-sustaining environment.
Community Engagement
"The Petropolis Of Tomorrow" encourages community engagement and active participation, fostering a sense of belonging among its residents. The city hosts regular events and workshops focused on pet care, urban gardening, and sustainable living.
Residents have access to communal spaces, such as community gardens and shared animal care facilities, promoting social interaction and collaborative efforts. The city also features advanced digital platforms that help connect pet owners, facilitate pet adoptions, and encourage responsible pet ownership.
The Future is "Petropolis"
Neeraj Bhatia's "The Petropolis Of Tomorrow" presents a compelling vision for the future of urban design. By combining the needs of both humans and animals, this pet-friendly city offers a blueprint for a more sustainable, inclusive, and harmonious way of living.
As pet ownership continues to rise and the importance of nature in urban areas becomes more apparent, "The Petropolis Of Tomorrow" shines as a beacon of hope and inspiration for architects, city planners, and pet lovers worldwide.

In recent years, Brazil has discovered vast quantities of petroleum deep within its territorial waters, inciting the construction of a series of cities along its coast and in the ocean. We could term these developments as Petropolises, or cities formed from resource extraction. The Petropolis of Tomorrow is a design and research project, originally undertaken at Rice University that examines the relationship between resource extraction and urban development in order to extract new templates for sustainable urbanism. Organized into three sections: Archipelago Urbanism, Harvesting Urbanism, and Logistical Urbanism, which consist of theoretical, technical, and photo articles as well as design proposals, The Petropolis of Tomorrow elucidates not only a vision for water-based urbanism of the floating frontier city, it also speculates on new methodologies for integrating infrastructure, landscape, urbanism and architecture within the larger spheres of economics, politics, and culture that implicate these disciplines. Contributions: Oriol Bohigas, Arnold Reijdorp and Casanova+Hernandez
