Are you aware of the recent controversy surrounding the Nassau Taxis Postal Contract? And have you heard about the Braun Petition in the Nassau 2nd? If not, then you're in for a treat! In this article, we will delve deep into the details of these two important matters that are currently making headlines in Nassau.
The Nassau Taxis Postal Contract
The Nassau Taxis Postal Contract has been a subject of intense debate and discussion among the residents of Nassau. The contract, worth millions of dollars, aims to provide taxi services for the Nassau Postal System. However, many critics argue that the contract was awarded unfairly, with allegations of corruption and nepotism.
The controversy began when the winning bid for the contract was given to a relatively unknown taxi company, despite several well-established taxi companies having submitted more competitive proposals. This led to widespread protests and calls for a transparent investigation into the selection process.

Furthermore, concerns have been raised about the quality of service provided by the company that won the contract. Reports suggest that there have been numerous complaints from postal workers about late arrivals, rude drivers, and unsafe vehicles. This has further fueled the anger among the taxi community and the general public.
The Nassau Taxis Postal Contract controversy has also caught the attention of local politicians and media outlets. Several politicians have demanded a thorough review of the contract award process, while media organizations have been covering the story extensively, shedding light on various inconsistencies and potential wrongdoing.
The Braun Petition in the Nassau 2nd
On a separate but equally important note, the Braun Petition in the Nassau 2nd is gaining momentum among the local residents. The petition, launched by a passionate group of environmental activists, aims to halt the construction of a new industrial complex in the Nassau 2nd district.
The protesters argue that the industrial complex, if built, will have severe environmental consequences, potentially causing irreparable damage to the local ecosystem. They claim that the industrial activities involved will lead to increased air and water pollution, deforestation, and the destruction of habitats for several endangered species.
The Braun Petition has garnered a significant number of signatures in a short period, demonstrating the widespread concern and solidarity among the residents. Local celebrities and influencers have also joined the cause, using their platform to raise awareness and support for the petition.
The outcome of the Braun Petition is yet to be determined, but the growing support and momentum suggest that the voice of the people will not be ignored. The Nassau 2nd is witnessing a wave of civic engagement and activism, with residents uniting to protect their environment and ensure their voices are heard by those in power.

Although this book has nothing to do with LGBT issues, this translation of The Nassau-Taxis Postal Contract by Karl Heinrich Ulrichs was justified by the very reason that it informed Ulrichs' approach to writing the 12 books to solve the “riddle of man-manly love.” Ulrichs' early works on constitutional law, such as this one, reveal why Ulrichs wrote his LGBT works in the form of legal tracts.
In 1860s Germany, the means by which one could approach advocating for the inalienable rights of persons with no name and no class, who individually were known to be pariahs of society, had to have taken some thought. Eventually it took a classicist and legal scholar to find a way. That person was Ulrichs.
Ulrichs learned Latin in his early school days, and graduated from the University of Göttingen in 1846 and the University of Berlin in 1848. He studied theology and law, ending with two dissertations in Latin, one on the Peace of Westphalia and another on cross-litigation. Upon graduation, Ulrichs became an administrative judge at the courts of the Kingdom of Hanover until 1854, when he resigned because of rumors of his sexual activity that was “against nature.” He had loathed his job in the civil service anyway. He became a journalist and later a private secretary in Frankfurt-on-Main to a member of the North German Confederation. During these years, 1861 and 1862, Ulrichs wrote on the Greater Germany problem and two publications on the German postal service. Inadvertently, with his knowledge of multiple disciplines, including journalism and writing experience in legal matters, Ulrichs had found his approach to the defense of people “of my nature.” Ulrichs had no doubt been aware of the liberal efforts of the March Revolution of 1848. That, plus his awareness of his sexuality, probably led to his activism.
When Karl Heinrich Ulrichs (1825-1895) died, he was famous as a Latinist. He had left Germany for Italy in 1880 never to return. While in L'Aquila in Abruzzo high in the Apennines, he published a journal in Latin titled Alaudae (Larks: The Songbirds). He wrote it beginning in 1889 until the year he died. Alaudae consisted of 33 issues with a total of 388 pages. The publication was known worldwide, and Ulrichs established himself as a classicist.
Before leaving Germany, though, Ulrichs was known for his 12 LGBT works collectively titled The Riddle of Man-Manly Love, written from 1863 to 1879. It was informed by many academic disciplines, including anthropology, psychology, theology, medicine, history, language and literature, sociology philosophy and law. His 12 LGBT books amounted to approximately 700 pages in the English version. By means of this work, Ulrichs had become the first known LGBT activist, the architect of LGBT pride, community and movement as well as the founder of LGBT Studies as a social science. How he got there is interesting.
